Ex Student Mocchi performs Vaishnav Jan for Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th
Paul Mc Cartney – LIPA – the National Arts Lottery
It was 1997, a very lucky year in my career as I was awarded the final prize by the UK National Arts Lottery Council to write the suite called the Immigrant. Secondly, I was also commissioned by the Spanish Society of Authors, to write the textbook on arranging on orchestration: El Arreglo. As a consequence, in the same year I headed over to Liverpool, UK., to start working on bringing to life my composition with the students from Paul Mc Cartney’s School of Music, L.I.P.A.
This is where I met Mochi. She came to the casting for the show and she blew us away with her extreme high power screeching bluesy voice. It was a wave of pure harmonics in perfect tuning. I selected her and 5 other vocalists and we worked together for about 6 months. She added to my composition colours and emotions I was not aware my music could produce.
Over the years I have followed her career as I do with all those musicians I have performed with and which I admire.
Vaishnav Jan
I would like to extend my congratulations for her good work and contribution of the Hymn Vaishnav Jan to the commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi´s 150th Birth Celebration.
