Sydney Music Producer Composer

Record with a Liverpool Indie Scene Veteran Producer

I started working in the 90s in the Liverpool, UK indie scene, coaching local bands to break into the UK market at Paul McCartney School of Music.

Since then, I have produced over 100 tracks for major labels as Warner Brothers and a lot of indies.  I am still working with younger musicians, helping them launch their sound to a wider audience.

Before & After

Frequently Asked Questions

Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

As s Sydney music producer I receive substantial demand from Latin music songwriters and producers who appreciate my unique rhythm and lead style. I handle the recording and arrangement of guitars for them. They place their trust in my extensive experience and creative production skills, ensuring the delivery of top-quality tracks that are ready for mixing.

My clients are aware that I’m not just a guitarist but also a composer and arranger. Consequently, they often entrust me with tasks beyond guitar playing. They seek my assistance in structuring their songs, determining instrument roles, and even request specific arrangements for strings and horns.

Frequently, songwriters seek my input on improving their compositions. In such cases, I engage in coaching and pre-production, actively participating in the creative process until the album’s final production—from inception to release. For these comprehensive projects, I put on my full production hat.

What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

I’ve got an absolute crush on musical legends who’ve etched their names into the annals of music history:

  1. Jimi Hendrix: His solos and grooves? They’re like dynamite, pure explosions of musical genius.
  2. George Benson: When it comes to blending bluesy vibes with groove and melody, he’s in a league of his own.
  3. Paco de Lucía: This guy? He’s a one-man orchestra, orchestrating magic with his flamenco mastery.
  4. Jeff Beck: His sound is nothing short of perfection. It’s like a sonic utopia.

And let’s not forget the wizards behind the scenes – the producers who sprinkle their magic on band sounds:

Rick Rubin, Sir George Martin, Quincy Jones, Nile Rodgers, John Leckie, and Steve Albini. They’re the sonic architects who make the music world spin.

And personally, I can’t get enough of arranging for big bands, vocal ensembles, and string sections. I look up to legends like Quincy Jones, Thad Jones, and Henry Mancini – they’re the maestros who set the gold standard in the world of musical arrangement

In my musical journey, I rely on top-notch gear to craft the sounds that define my productions:

  • DAW Interface: My creative hub is the Apogee | SYMPHONY I/O MK2 | Thunderbolt. It’s the bridge to my musical world, seamlessly integrated with Protools and Logic.
  • Analog Warmth: For that warm, analog touch, I turn to my trusty Focusrite ISA One Analog. It’s the secret sauce that adds richness to my sound.
  • Microphone Arsenal: In my arsenal, you’ll find the Neumann U87 and Shure SM57 and SM58 condenser microphones. They’re my go-to for capturing every nuance.
  • Electric Guitar Magic: When it’s time to unleash electric guitar wizardry, my Mesa Boogie Stereo Preamp, paired with the 50/50 Mesa Boogie Amp and those 2 Mesa Cabinets with Black Celestion 12-inch speakers (circa 1992), creates the sonic storm I’m after.
  • Guitar Selection: For electric guitar, I favor the PRS limited edition 1989 Strat configuration and the SRV Strat. And when it comes to acoustic magic, my heart sings with the Taylor 814.
  • Spanish Guitar Elegance: For the captivating allure of Spanish guitars, I choose the handcrafted Flamenco Conde Guitar Media Luna 2002 and the Eduardo Duran Blanca 2015.
  • Versatile Deliverables: My final tracks come in various formats, catering to your needs: 44.1 kHz for that CD quality, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, or the pristine 92 kHz resolution, available in both 16 and 24-bit.

Based in Australia, I proudly call Sydney my musical home. As a Sydney Music Producer, I’m here to elevate your sound and bring your musical vision to life.

What's your typical work process?

The ideal process is as follows:

  1. You send me the tracks in WAV or AIFF format.
  2. I’ll promptly provide you with a quick demo in MP3 format to preview what I’ll be recording for your project.

However, before we dive into recording, it’s crucial for me to understand the essence of your song and your artistic vision. This enables me to deliver a more precise performance, tailored to your needs. To achieve this, I’ll ask you a few key questions:

  • As an artist, how do you aim to convey your emotions, intentions, and unique identity?
  • As the songwriter, what emotions or vibes do you want your audience to experience?

Together, we’ll collaborate to determine the production style, selecting from various guitar options, cabinet choices, microphone techniques, and decisions regarding compression and effects.

I’ll proceed to record the tracks and send them to you in a premixed state, offering insight into how they are intended to fit within the final mix, including EQ, compression, and effects.

We’ll engage in a discussion, allowing for improvements and refinements. Once we reach a point where you are satisfied, I’ll deliver the final tracks to you. These tracks will be in your preferred resolution: 44.1 kHz (CD), 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, or 92 kHz, available in both 16-bit and 24-bit formats.

For those in the local area, as a Sydney Music Producer, I offer the option to collaborate in person at my Recording Studio. Your music project is in capable hands, and I look forward to working with you.

What do you bring to a song?

My experience as a live performer has given me an intuitive understanding of what resonates with the audience, igniting their excitement and energy.

Drawing from my diverse background as a producer, arranger, composer, and educator, now located in  Sydney I offer comprehensive support. I can guide you through every aspect of your project, from selecting chords, crafting vocal lines, and shaping beats to exploring mixing and mastering options.

What's your strongest skill?

To transform and adapt harmonies to complement vocal lines, enhance the groove of your song, and emphasize every aspect of your production with clarity and power.

What type of music do you usually work on?

I primarily work on acoustic music, often collaborating with live performers who play the songs. However, I’m also comfortable incorporating loops when the style calls for it.

My preferred styles encompass acoustic Latin Music, Flamenco, Funk, Jazz, and Blues. With over 50 years of experience in this field, I’ve honed my versatility and expertise.

I invite you to explore my solo albums and the songs I’ve crafted alongside other talented artists.

Can you share one music production tip?

Before you head into the recording studio, ensure your song stands strong on its own. Perform it live, and fine-tune the lyrics, structure, and chords until you capture the desired vibe and elicit the audience’s intended reaction.

Remember, studio production has its limits. If you need assistance in achieving that ‘good sound’ goal, consider seeking guidance from a seasoned traditional producer who can provide valuable coaching

Which artist would you like to work with and why?

I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with some of my childhood musical heroes, including Alphonso Johnson (Weather Report), Walfredo Reyes (Chicago, Santana), Dave Garfield (George Benson), and more.

Additionally, I’ve had the honor of producing and working with Grammy-winning artists such as Macaco.

Currently, I’m eager to join forces with talented musicians and songwriters who are driven by authenticity and a shared passion for delivering their absolute best music for everyone to savor and appreciate.

How would you describe your style?

I’m a fusion of Paco de Lucía, George Benson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Henry Mancini, George Martin, flamenco, and Latin music. That’s who I am.
